Before I adopted Victor, I had never really owned a dog. I warn you all, it can cost a fortune and be worth every penny.
A friend decided that it was time that I had a dog. Maybe she just figured that my life was so complicated, that it was time for me to triple the complexity. Who knows, but as she suggested it, it sounded like a good idea. There was a dog up for adoption at a local clinic and we popped by. The dog had been adopted that day, a sign from on high I thought. After a couple of weeks I got a call to rescue a pit bull in Queens. When I found out that he was sixty pounds I said no way. My smallish one bedroom is far too quaint for such a big dog. The clinic told me that they had a rescue case that looked so sad. He was a six and a half week old Lab-mix who was dumped off because he had never done number two’s. It turned out that his colon was not attached to his bum hole. The vet sent him off for surgery and raised the cash locally. Anyway, I began visiting this little puppy who was wider than he was long. The surgeon’s wife had named him Bingo. After week’s of visiting and walking, I decided to take him home. That is when people began noticing his big paws. Everyone said how big he was going to get, so I decided that Bingo would not cut it. There is a wolf and child mentioned in Irma Vep and his name is Victor, so it seemed natural that this would be his name. He is now two and a half years old and nearly eighty pounds.
We had several mishaps and surgery and the training went well. I was recommended to a trainer who was top dog, but I was lazy. Victor has to mostly read my mind to know what I want. Even though the investment is enormous, I have never felt so loved as I do having the dog around. He fills my life and home with a presence and a joy. Also, he drives me crazy. Below I have added some doggy links. (Click on thumb tack for site.) |
